According to a recent definition a Digital Twin is a virtual representation of a physical object or system, designed to accurately reflect its real-world counterpart. By utilizing real-time data, simulation, machine learning, and reasoning, Digital Twins help in making informed decisions throughout the lifecycle of an object.
That sounds pretty cool, and you regularly hear about digital twins, but can you also do something with them in your own organization? Four students from the Faculty of Economics and Business of the University of Groningen investigated for Samenwerking Noord to what extent they are already used and what the potential of digital twins can be. Anastasia Karta, Maria Batalha, Pelin Özalp and Thom Dijkstra focused their research primarily on the theme of water management, in which several of our members are involved. However, the results they describe may also be translatable to other domains.
Joyce van de Velde, practice lead spatial intelligence & data visualization at Ordina, was one of the discussion partners during the research. Joyce will discuss the broader perspective for the application of digital twins.
At the end of the meeting there will be room to ask questions and discuss. A great opportunity to discover the potential of digital twins for your own organization.
